The American actor Jon Hamm, real name Jonathan Daniel Hamm, was best known for playing the erratic and brilliant adman Don Draper on the television series Mad Men (2007–2015). He lived born on March 10, 1971, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was successful in movies as well, frequently using his charisma to lighten up difficult situations or for comedy effects.
Hamm came from a challenging family. When he was two years old, his parents got divorced, and his mother, with whom he shared a home, passed away when he was ten. When Hamm was a sophomore at the University of Texas, his father went away, and he moved in with his father and grandmother. However, she passed away quickly. He left school after feeling uneasy and went back to his hometown. He enrolled in the University of Missouri, where he appeared in theatre performances (as well as for two summers in a repertory group). Hamm taught at the elite John Burroughs School in St. Louis from 1993 to 1995 after earning a B.A. in English (1993).
In 1995, Hamm relocated to Hollywood. The Hughleys marked the actor’s TV debut, and Space Cowboys marked his feature debut. When the program debuted in 2007, both critics and spectators hailed it as a triumph. Particular attention was given to Hamm, who received eight Emmy Award nominations for best actor and won two Golden Globe Awards (in 2008 and 2016) for best performance by an Actor in a serious role.
In 2015, for the show’s final season, he finally took home the latter honor. A Young Doctor’s Notebook, Parks and Recreation, Children’s Hospital, 30 Rock (as Dr. Drew Baird), and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt were among her other TV appearances. He portrayed Gabriel, the archangel, in the 2019 season of the Amazon miniseries Good Omens. The 2020 sports documentary All or Nothing: The Philadelphia Eagles was narrated by Hamm.
The Town (2010), Friends with Kids (2011), which starred Westfeldt and was written and directed by her, and Million Dollar Arm (2014), a drama in which he played a sports agent, are among the notable movies in which Hamm continues to make appearances. Later, in the 2016 comedy Keeping Up with the Joneses, he was portrayed by a government snoop.
In the action-comedy Baby Driver, which was released in 2017, Hamm plays a bank robber. The following year, he appeared in two films: Beirut, in which he played Mason Skiles, a former American diplomat negotiating a hostage situation in the midst of the Lebanese civil war, and Tag, an ensemble comedy, in which he played a member of a group of friends participating in an epic round of the kid-friendly game. In the 2018 film Bad Times at the El Royale, Hamm played a salesman staying at a hotel with a colorful past.
The Report, a true story about an investigation into the CIA’s post-9/11 interrogation strategies, Lucy in the Sky, a drama about an astronaut who struggles to adjust to life back on Earth, and Richard Jewell, Clint Eastwood’s biopic about a security guard who was falsely accused of planning the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games bombing, were among Hamm’s films from 2019. Later, he made cameos in Steven Soderbergh’s No Sudden Move (2021) and the dramedy Wild Mountain Thyme (2021). In the action film Top Gun: Maverick, a follow-up to the 1986 hit about military jet pilots, Hamm played a vice admiral in 2022.
