BACKGROUND

Johnny Dang was born in Vietnam and raised in a tiny hamlet in the central Vietnam highlands with his four siblings. Dang’s father and grandfather both operated in the jewelry enterprise. During the Vietnam War, his father fought alongside US allies. In search of a better life for himself and his family, his father immigrated to America in 1987. Dang and his family moved to Houston, Texas, in 1996, where he worked as a jewelry repairman from 1997 to 1998. He received a bachelor’s degree in English from Houston Community College. Before moving to Texas, Dang learned how to make jewelry while living in Vietnam, which tremendously aided him in establishing his business there.

Dang started operating at a flea demand repair kiosk, making almost $100 per month, until he satisfied rapper and entrepreneur Paul Wall. Dang’s ability to design grillz without the use of tooth filing impressed Wall. Dang was able to get into hip-hop because of the rapper’s connections and business acumen. This started a working connection that is still going on today. The two began to appear at hip-hop venues such as Coco Loco, among others.

Dang’s company was increasing by the year 2000, and he enjoyed to complete something special for separately of his rapper clients by incorporating flourishes like rounded diamonds and different colored diamonds. Dang moved his company from the Sharpstown Mall to a separate location later in 2016. He began designing personalized grillz for celebrities outside of the hip-hop world by creating grillz for Katy Perry, Paris Hilton, D.J. Pauly D, Tony Hawk, Jeffree Star, and others. He continues to employ his expertise to produce previously unheard-of Grillz designs, such as the infamous “invisible baguettes” he developed in 2019 for rapper Quavo. On his Instagram page, Quavo proudly displays a set of the first emerald-cut grillz ever made by Dang.

Johnny Dang & Co. jewelry is now available everywhere, including the original shop in PlazAmericas and many other locations. Dang’s jewelry display department operates almost 50 someones who take directions on-site from innovation to display.

Migos, Gucci Mane, Lil Pump, Lucky Luciano, DaBaby, Y.N.W. Dang has provided vocals to several songs, including ‘Stay Iced Up’ from Paul Wall’s 2010 album “Heart of a Champion.” Dang is married to Jennifer Dang, and the couple lives a luxury lifestyle that costs millions of dollars.

Furthermore, the couple has two children with whom they spend as much of their free time as possible. Dang gave birth to a son on April 19, 2007, and a girl on September 6, 2005.
